Towers Of Gold Are Still Too Little

I had an hour and a half drive ahead of me, and 45 minutes in I decided to do what millions of Americans would do with absolutely no shame. I turned on "The Greatest Showman” soundtrack. The musical brought in over $170 million dollars and took America by storm. I went straight to “Never Enough” by Loren Allred and belted my heart out for 3 minutes, and then naturally played it one more time (How could you not??). If you don’t know what song I’m referring to it’s a must listen, so here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQWZK5U233
Pretty powerful song, huh? I understand that the song’s intention was to be a love song. However, the more I listened to it (over and over again) I realized that this song proclaims an insane truth about a life without Jesus. The lyrics include something along the lines of this: All the shine of a thousand spotlights; Towers of gold are still too little; These hands could hold the world BUT IT’LL NEVER BE ENOUGH. Basically, whether you have achieved all the fame you could dream of, all of the money you could ever dream for, or even having so much success that the whole world could essentially be in your hands… it will Never. Be. Enough.
The secular things: People dedicate their life to achieving everything this world has to offer but it only brings false fulfillment. We feel temporary satisfied only to be left feeling empty, and longing for more or something else. It’s this constant race of chasing after something that is continually maintaining pace ahead of us until we give up hope, or until we’re 6 feet under.
In a “60 Minutes” interview, after winning 3 Super Bowls and signing a $60-million-dollar contract, NFL legend Tom Brady says on national television discussing his career: “There’s got to be more than this?” You’re telling me that maybe the best quarterback in the history of the game is unsatisfied with a life that millions of people would give their everything for?? I have no idea if Tom Brady has a relationship with the Lord, but this just goes to show that secular achievements will NEVER BE ENOUGH.
When our life is flooded with brokenness, we sometimes drown ourselves more and more by turning to temporary relief (drugs, alcohol, television, sleep, sex, a relationship, etc.). We will always end up feeling abandoned due to the brokenness never being healed in the first place. And then shame weighs us down. As a result, we choose to put on these masks in order to protect ourselves from the judgement of other people. Whatever it is, it’ll NEVER BE ENOUGH.
God doesn’t love us for the fake costumes that we wear in order to try to convince others of someone we’re not. God loves you for you because he created you. When he made you, he had your best interest in mind. God loves you so much that he died for you.
The fact of the matter is that all these secular things are TEMPORARY. A relationship with God is the only relationship that will leave you fulfilled ETERNALLY.
“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his souls? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?”
Matthew 16:26
God’s love outlasts all of our own personal desires. The most exciting part about this is that it is offered to ANYBODY & EVERYBODY. Stop worrying about what you’ve done! God doesn’t see your past and where you’ve been, he sees your present state and is willing to meet you exactly where you are. There is a God that is begging for us to surrender it all to him and for us to proclaim that he is almighty, and that we are hopeless without him. And when the non-believer finds new life in Jesus, they’re going to be throwing us a party in heaven. God will Always. Be. Enough. Never forget it.
