If we were all honest we would say that we really can’t stand being around a narcissist ---someone that constantly talks about themselves and thinks the world revolves around them. However if we were also honest, we all in some way, shape, or fashion fit that mold perfectly. We make life all about US and forget about our creator. We focus on which steps WE should take in life without focusing on the person who placed our two feet on this Earth. We focus on what WE should say to this person without realizing that Jesus is our breathe of life. He literally breathed life into us in Genesis 2:7.
We get things so twisted and we paralyze ourselves when we focus on what we can do for Jesus rather than what he has already done for us. This egotistical way that we carry ourselves is a self-centered lifestyle that is rooted in insecurities. It truly becomes a disorder that prevents us from achieving all the things that God has called for us. In order to flip our perspective we need to turn our insecurities into total security in Jesus.
Is your purpose for people to see what you do, or for people to see what God is doing? Stop building up your life and making it about you. That’s a castle. Let God be your foundation and make your life about him. That’s a Kingdom. Let’s be Kingdom builders.
Someone in the Bible that executed this perfectly was John the apostle. He was never concerned with how well he loved Jesus, and instead always concerned himself with how much Jesus loved him. He was the only disciple that followed Jesus all the way to the cross. The other disciples, like Peter and Judas never showed up because they were ashamed --- disappointed in how they had treated Jesus. They wouldn’t lay down their life at the foot of the cross because they were concerned with themselves. But John was there. John never thought like that. In fact, he always referred to himself as “the disciple whom Jesus loved” not "the disciple who loved Jesus."
I believe that when we make our lives about Jesus, the potential for our lives is laid out in front of us more clearly. But potential is perishable without the pursuit of the Savior. When we pursue God like John did, God gives us his promise. “If we draw near to God, he will draw near to us.” (James 4:8) That promise from God is the blue prints that our life needs to be based off of. God has a plan for you. Make it about HIM and not you.
