You ever been so excited to tell someone something and they respond in the most non-excited way possible? Yeah, that’s the worst. It hurts, and that’s how a lot of us live, constantly feeling hurt.
A lot of it is because we live for other people’s approval (I can claim guilty on this one), and when we do not receive their approval we become discontent. We live in a society of constant discontentment - School is not what we want it to be, our Summer job isn’t enjoyable, and my personal favorite… “this wifi is garbage.” A lot of us just aren’t happy people.
Before you read anymore, I want you to think about who or what makes you
happy and satisfies you the most…
Ready? Here’s the truth: If your answer wasn’t Jesus, whatever you thought of is temporary. There is a 100% chance that your significant other, friends, school, or sports will let you down in some way. I don’t know about you but I want eternal joy rather than temporary happiness.
So how do we get there? I know it sounds too simple but get a hold of Jesus. You could be at your all time low but there’s still hope: When we are emotionally unstable, God is never emotionally unavailable. God wants us to be content, but with our contentedness rooted in him. Jesus didn’t die to make us happy, he died to make us holy. But I think I’d rather have holiness through God because holiness creates happiness.
We don’t have to do this whole life thing on our own. As Christians, we lose sight of that and I think God sometimes laughs at us -(in the most loving way possible of course). He sees us try to fix everything on our own, or here’s a good one- worrying about this girl or guy we may pursue when he already has our spouse picked for us if we would just trust him with it. God just wants to tell us, “Look up, focus on me, I got you. I’m the way, the truth, and the life.”
If we learned to be more content with where Jesus has us, we would be saying “Thank you Jesus” more than “Can you help me God?” Phillipians 4:13 says “I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength”- but why don’t we ever look 2 verses before that. Paul tells us in Phillipians 4:11 that… “I have learned how to be content with whatever I have.”
All worldly things will let us down, but Jesus stays constant- He will never let
us down. I’m thankful to serve a God that has never changed and never will. Being a Christian is not a worry free life, but with God as captain it becomes a worry less life. Find your rest in him today.
